‘Deselecting’ our children - The Globe and Mail
You know a better way to get rid of all Downs Syndrome would be to just kill them after they are born. After all, the tests aren't always right either way, with both false positives and negatives. If we just wait until they are born to kill them we will be sure to only get the right ones.
If that thought disturbs you, so should aborting a baby because it's not perfect.
Honestly, I don't even get the tests anymore. If there is something "wrong" with my baby, I will love him and raise him anyway. Honestly, since I seem to only be able to birth human beings, all my babies have flaws, so what if this one isn't as smart or pretty? He would be better than the others in other ways.
If we continue to make it OK to kill a baby because he has Down's, how long before we kill anyone who isn't perfect due to a car accident, illness, or some other cause?
Once we start playing God, we are in very dangerous territory.
